MULLED BRANDY

Mulled rakia belongs to the traditional Bulgarian tastes and is an integral part of our traditions and customs.

Mulled brandy is a hot drink that is made from quality plum brandy. It is heated with spices such as cloves, orange peel and sugar. Mulled rakia is popular during the winter months and is served in special cups.

This tradition has a long history and is associated with warming the body during cold days. Mulled brandy is considered a remedy for colds and to improve blood circulation.

 

Mulled brandy – recipe of VINPROM - TROYAN

VINPROM – TROYAN has developed a special recipe for mulled brandy, using two main ingredients – Plum brandy and Plum Honey. This recipe is without the addition of additional sugar. The sweetness is obtained entirely from linden honey, which is present in Plum Honey. The recipe is very easy.

Ingredients:

1 dose of Plum brandy

1 serving Plum Honey

clove

black pepper

Orange peel

 

All ingredients are mixed in a copper cezve (if you don't have a cezve, just use a regular saucepan), which we slowly heat. Leave the mixture to boil at least once, then it is ready to serve. It is best served in a ceramic cup, which will keep the heat of the drink for a longer time. In case the mulled brandy according to this recipe is too sweet for you, it is easy to correct with a larger amount of Plum brandy.

Mulled rakia – a traditional recipe

For those who prefer mulled brandy produced in a traditional way, we have the following recipe:

1 tbsp honey

100 ml. Troyan aged plum brandy

Heat the honey in a copper cezve until it melts. At the last moment, spices are added as desired (pepper, cloves, cinnamon, dried plums or apple slices, orange peels, lemon peels), and then the brandy is poured. The subtlety is that the liquid is removed from the heat at the moment of boiling (as they say: "turn it over once"). It is drunk hot, you cannot burn yourself, as the boiling temperature is much lower. And one more feature – while drinking, do not inhale, otherwise the strong influence of alcohol comes very soon.
